Born in Tokyo, Japan. She started playing violin at the age of 3. She won the first prize of the Mainichi Student Music Contest during the student age of Toho University of Music in Tokyo. After graduating from the university, she continued her music training as a German Academic Exchange Scholarship Student at the Universities of Munich, Essen and Berlin. During her academic years she won numerous prizes. In 1978 she won the Kranichsteiner Music Prize in the Darmstadt Modern Music Festival.
After that, Noriko Kawamura has taken parts in many original performances and recordings of contemporary music.
Her highly appreciated activities range widely from the solo performances to experimental performances in co-operation with Japanese traditional puppet theater, shakuhachi music and pantomime. In 1991 she received the Klangmobil prize from Swiss Music Council.
She directs “Andere Kommermusik (different chamber music)” concerts series in Zurich and Baden.
